Me and my buddies are having the same problem on ps5, we all have cross play on, we tried closing app, having each other host, but as soon as we get 3-4 or 4-4 players it all locks, it’s really annoying
Pick the game mode first, then go to party screen, send your invites and when all players are in the start button will disappear. At this stage get one of the party member to leave and rejoin the party and the start button stays and you can play. Bit of a pain but this works for us.
