EA locking comments on threads complaining about this completely unforced, ridiculously incompetent error that has persisted for almost 3 hours now without any update from EA after the generic "We're looking into it"... well that just sends a strong message to players.
Getting a refund.
I feel your pain... So disappointed.
Went to get a refund.... and that has crashed!
Just such a bitter taste ... especially when you hear Steam users are up and running.
I'm walking away ... to calm down.

I've got through to REFUND..
I know it will take longer than the fix... However, it sends a message... EA Sales (will want to hold somebody accountable).
As for me, it's 3 to 5 hours of my life I will not get back.... trying to sort out an EA issue... Worldwide....Yikes!!! That's a lot of hours, fellas..
