Spot/Ping Uses Vehicle Forward Direction Instead of Player View

Platform: PC (Steam) — This issue also occurs on other platforms.

PC Specs:

  • OS: Windows 11 (25H2, OS BUILD 26200.8655)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (610.74)
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850M WIFI 7
  • RAM: DDR5 32 GB
  • Storage: NVMe SSD

Issue:
Since update 1.4.1.0, a new Spot/Ping bug has been occurring in certain vehicles and vehicle seats.

The Spot/Ping marker should be placed based on where the player is currently looking or aiming. However, in the affected vehicles and seats, the Spot/Ping is placed based on the vehicle's forward direction instead of the player's view direction.

Because of this, even when the player looks or aims to the side, above, or in another direction, the Spot/Ping is still placed toward the front of the vehicle rather than at the location indicated by the player's view or crosshair.

This issue is not limited to PC (Steam). It also occurs on other platforms.

Affected Vehicles / Seats:
The issue occurs in the following vehicles and seats:

  • MBT
  • IFV, including its non-weapon seat
  • Weapon-mounted seats of Light Transport Vehicles only
  • Weapon-mounted seats of ATP only
  • Anti-Air Vehicle
  • GDF-009
  • Attack Helicopter
  • Recon Helicopter cockpit and co-pilot seat only
  • Transport Helicopter cockpit and minigun gunner seats
  • Attack Aircraft
  • Stealth Jet
  • Patrol Boat
  • RHIB Boat gunner seat only
  • Mounted M41A7 TOW Launcher
  • Mounted M2 heavy machine gun
  • Drone

The common pattern is that the bug occurs mainly in vehicles or seats equipped with weapons. However, there is one known exception: the IFV's non-weapon seat is also affected.

Expected Result:
The Spot/Ping marker should be placed at the location or in the direction indicated by the player's current view, crosshair, or aiming direction.

Actual Result:
The Spot/Ping marker is placed based on the vehicle's forward direction instead of the player's current view or aiming direction.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch the game on version 1.4.1.0 or later.
  2. Enter one of the affected vehicles or seats listed above.
  3. Look or aim in a direction different from the vehicle's forward direction.
  4. Use the Spot/Ping function.
  5. Observe that the marker is placed toward the front of the vehicle instead of where the player is looking or aiming.

Additional Notes:
This issue makes the Spot/Ping function unreliable while using affected vehicles and seats because it does not accurately mark the target or location the player is trying to ping.

Testing suggests that the issue is mainly associated with weapon-equipped vehicles and seats, although the IFV's non-weapon seat is also affected as an exception.

Please take the time to read and review this bug report. I would really appreciate it if this issue could be investigated, as it significantly affects communication and target marking while using vehicles.

Jet pilot man here, I can’t confirm that this is how it’s been since launch for jets at least. Hell, spotting doesn’t even work in the jets.

I noticed this as well. I was gunner in IFV and it was no where close to where I was actually pinging

  • This happens in numerous vehicles, attack boats, tanks, even the RHIB. Ping/spotting seems to work when in the driver seat just fine, but when in a gunner seat, trying to ping a spot marks it BASICALLY behind you, sometimes hundreds of meters away. Not sure if this happens to vehicle pilots/drivers as well, if it does it's intermittent because I was able to ping (Q) just fine as a driver. Gunner seat, forget about it. This didn't seem to be an issue prior to 1.4.1.0, correct me if i'm wrong.

  • Whoops just posted about this. Very annoying bug and completely breaks spotting as a gunner
