Controller not working in online modes only

On PC, both Xbox and PS5 controllers don't work in online matches, regardless of running in EA or Steam. I'll get into a match and all of a sudden my guy doesn't respond, or automatically starts running offside or over the sidelines. Controller works fine on all other games modes. What is the problem here? I've had to quit over 40 matches now and perform every single bit of troubleshooting I found online. I've even disconnected all other USB devices to the point where I had to remote into my PC to control the mouse and relaunch the game. This is quite ridiculous to say the least. I've used these controllers for 20+ other games and never had this issue.
