Steam-Overlay not working

While being in the normal in-game menu the Steam Overlay does not activate when I press shift+tab. Even though it is activated in steam settings and works in other games, seemingly since the new update the overlay no longer appears, which makes game recording, screenshots, in-game purchases, etc. impossible. The issue clearly does not lie with steam and the keyboard inputs are registered in-game, but the pressing of shift+tab no longer results in the appearance of the overlay.

Even when circumventing the overlay and trying to purchase EA FC Points directly from steam the transaction cannot be completed and the currency does not appear in-game. When I attempt to select the currency in the in-game store I only get the message "Please wait..." while the overlay should have appeared in order for me to complete the transaction.

It seems that since the recent update the connection between steam and EA FC 26 got severed and no longer works.
