SOLVED: E_OUTOFMEMORY error crashes game at startup

The game was working fine this morning. Now when I try to start the game, it loads up to the black SKATE screen with "configuring..." at the bottom right corner and then I get this error. I've tried reinstalling the game, reinstalling the graphics driver, verifying system files, verifying game files, using the -dx11 argument at launch, and turning off the in-game overlay from the EA Launcher settings and still doesn't work. I provided a screenshot of the error.

UPDATE: Was able to fix this by doing this. Please read entire post before doing anything to fully understand what to do.

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY DO THIS IF YOU GOT THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE AS THE SCREENSHOT. The error message should list the current driver version installed on your machine. In the screenshot I provided, it says "GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, Driver: 59159".

  • Navigate to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Skate
  • Delete the Skate folder.
  • Goto NVIDIA and scroll down to Manual Driver Search.
  • Enter your specific GPU, OS, language and choose Game Ready Driver.
  • From the results, find the most recent driver from the previous driver series.
  • Download and open the installer.
  • When it asks where to save the extracted files, leave the location it lists. It'll be a temporary location.
  • When it asks Express installation or Custom installation choose Custom.
  • Check the box for Clean Install and install the driver. This will remove the current driver and install the driver u downloaded.
  • Reboot and launch Skate.

The error message stated the issue was from driver version 59159 (591.59). Instead of just installing the previous driver from the same 59xxx series, I made sure to get the most recent version from the previous driver series. In this case being 58xxx, Specifically version 581.80 - WHQ. Skate launched without error after doing this.

Hope this helps.
