Time synchronisation issues

We had a summer time shift in the UK, but the daily quest reset time did not follow it. The new reset time (21:30) was very inconvenient for me (baby go to bed time), so I’ve asked support to revert it back. Instead, for some reason they changed it to 23:00 GMT, which really cuts my game time to 1 hr per day and is plain silly. It was not changed back despite me asking about it several times :((

On a more general bug note, one would expect you’ll grab local time from the device, or if you want it to be centralised query public NTP servers. Summer/winter time shifts are one hour only, but what happens if a user travels across several timezones? This can easily shift most playtime to sleep time, and relocation can be permanent. Hence the issue can be more serious than it seems.

Got it, but unfortunately I can only change it myself in 222 days :(

As harvest said, if it automatically changed your resets, that would change your absolute PO times, and if others on your fleet shard have not changed their clocks, that could unduly mess things up.

But again, you can go change it yourself.

Btw, already lost resources because of that. My normal reset time was before GA starts, and I casually used daily quests farm to help with last minute upgrades before the final rooster save. Today I wanted to slice a few top mods before it kicks off, but ran out of the needed credits and had to waste raid materials to get credits. Stupid, as stupid gets…

Well, I’m in IT myself and for me grabbing local device time or, if it can’t be trusted in a corporate environment, an authenticated trusted NTP server, is default. The end user shouldn’t even be concerned with such issues: it just happens. Also, it’s not rocket science to change reset time once to what it was a day before to manually compensate for a bug (yes, not updating time automatically is a bug which can easily ruin you patch management, version control etc etc). Instead they’ve changed it to 23:00 and now blaming me. A classic case of contacting support making things worse, seen that, been there, but in a corp env that usually leads to terminations :)

Btw, I have to work Californian hours from time to time, but that’s mainly about incidents and escalations.

Well no, it can't.  Players use a time that suits them, not a time that is meant for their time zone.  Less than half the countries in the world change at the same time as us.  Also, there are countries that share our time zone for part of the year, that don't change to summer time.

Also, I could be in the UK and work odd hours, which is the case for me as I work Japanese hours (they don't have a summer time), but I don't live Japanese hours.

Ohhh, it can get worse.....much much worse.  However, I'd have thought an issue like this (where they don't need in game knowledge) would have been within their remit.

Well, I’m reasonably new (5 months). I found a reasonable time after a few attempts. It changed with the time shift. Instead of changing it back to what it was (20:30) , the support shifted it to 23:00 and are now convincing me that it was 23:00, we live in the Matrix, and all my previous life was a hallucination.

These were already used. The time should automatically adjust to time changes over which we have no control. It doesn’t and it’s a bug.

  • P.s.: the support on the issue was absolutely atrocious taking me for an idiot and trying to explain me that somehow 20:30 == 23:00. The worst support experience I had so far.

You realize you can change your reset time yourself, right? You get two changes per year. It's in the settings somewhere. No need to try and go through support.

  • Well, firstly the game company is in the USA.  Their clocks changed a couple of week before we (UK/Europe) did.  Some aspects of SWGOH change with 'their' time.  Other aspects stay the same whatever.

It's important that Arena payouts (where you're working in a shard with people whose summer time doesn't change or change at a different time) stay the same whatever.

You can have a time that suits you, but it's better to be a time that suits you for summer & winter.  I'm guessing you're quite new.  However, in the future you may (and if you really do well/get into this game) you'll be liaising with your ship shard mates.   It would be an absolute nightmare if you had to change your time every 6 months due to GMT/BST times.

My advice, find a time that suits you for summer and winter and get it changed to that.  However, I'm unsure how many changes your allowed.  There may be a limit.
