I am trying to complete the formative moment "be a best friend", and I cannot complete the task of complimenting 3 sims, as my child sim has no option to give compliments when I click on the sims around her. She has a level 10 social skill and a level 4 Charisma.
Compared to her, both her parents have the option to give compliments.
Please follow these steps to test your game on vanilla game with no mods/cc
- Create a backup of your save game
- Move your mods folder to the desktop
- Delete the following files from your user folder.
- localthumbcache
- Any lastException Files
- Any LastCrash files.
- Test on the backup of your save as you will loose all cc on the save and see if the same error occurs, then report back.
Ok, so I created a backup of the save folder (and moved it to the desktop)
I moved the mods folder to the desktop (and turned off mods, I have not had CC in my game in over a year)
I deleted the files you suggested
I decided to start a brand new vanilla save with a freshly created mother and child. (I was a bit confused about what you meant about using the back up save, since it was on my desktop)
The mother can compliment the child, but the child still has no option to compliment the mother.
I took the child to the playground lot, and had him make friends with another child, but there is still no option for him to give compliments.
I guess I can't vote yet but I was trying to figure out the same thing. Neither of my two child sims can compliment. This save has never used mods or cc. The child sim with the highest charisma is level 6.
I’ve figured it out. You have to make sure the child is Happy with the green aura, and then the interaction ‘heartfelt compliment’ is available.

Edit post try: My child sim was energized, and the compliments option came up for her to give a compliment, which she did (give a pep talk) and it added to the formative moment count. I then tried to get her to give a pep talk to her other parent, but the compliments option had disappeared again
I am assuming you are therefore giving the solution, I will try get her to give another compliment when happy and report back.
Further edit: so far she has been over-energised, but I managed all the pep talks (ie compliments) and she achieved the formative moment. I guess the solution is that only certain emotions can enable children to give compliments.
Final edit: yes, my child sim could give a compliment when in the happy moodlet! :)
