Similar problem here but it may have been because I got too comfortable. I placed bunch of imaginary dolls on a playground lot and made my sim turn one into an imaginary friend but the problem was the friend looked like a normal sim - tried to figure it out - found it may be because of tray import setting being to 100 and the game picked a random sim from tray - I reduced it to 70 another issue is that the doll disappeared from the lot and now I get these notifications like the doll was bound to a child somehow even though it's not in the inventory. Oh and also trying to reset my child sim, removing buffs, doesn't do anything. Whenever I get the new krafty doll it just says not owned even though it's bought on the home lot - weird and I seemingly can't figure out the workaround. So sad :/
