Adults/teens/children at work/school on reload trying to skip work/school

I just started playing sims again and it completely nuked my play experience with having a working husband and my big shot career as a detective with 4 kids and the school aged ones with good grades. I’m going to prioritize the game event to see if I can finish it and it works again like everyone’s saying.
