As soon as I add railing to my stairs (and across the top step effectively creating another room) I can no longer assign as residents, public, or employees only. Spandrels also delete any room assignments

Possible causes for this
- Freezes
- Spandrels
- Railings
- Fenced Yard
When a unit area is set as public or residential, the selected option disappears. When I go into build buy to set it, there is no outline on the room and I am unable to set an outline. This causes visitors to not go to that room (if a business). Room also has a platform in if this helps.

I was having this problem too until I read this thread, clearing all the various cache folders and restarting the game fixed it. 😀😀😀
My particular build is exceptionally complex, multiple raised platforms and inside fences, etc, so I don't think the build impacts the issue. In retrospect what I think did it was using a previous build already set up as a business as a starting point is. 😂

Yes, looking at the images on the attached thread, that is the same problem I have experienced. As some of the comments have said, restarting fixes the issues.
I've encountered this many times on various builds. Sometimes the room doesn't have the option to be assigned despite other rooms working fine. I have not determined a cause. You can see this room is outlined in white, which should not be an option on a small business lot.
I have noticed that as well when i am trying to build on a lot for a specific themed build. It will be on for a little bit then go off while in the middle of building.
I encountered the same issue while in the build mode building something, I tried to log off and on again (re-start the game) and it will reappear. I don't know it is a bug/glitch. I'm playing on PS5.
I had this issue and saving the entire lot to my library and placing it again seemed to fix the issue for me. This saved my build, THANK YOU!
With a stair between the floor level (business) and 2nd floor (home), it bugs the rooms. The room also always keep switching between one or the other or become unselectable and you have to redraw your rooms 10 times and paint them all over again. Please fix this feature.
