I have a Crystal Tree on the old Goth lot and all 5 Sims who live there are obsessed with Researching the Crystal Tree. They do it autonomously any time they don't have tasks queued over any other activity (chess, painting, instruments, etc.), sometimes even if they have other needs apart from Fun in the red. One of the Sims actively dislikes gardening and still autonomously Researches the tree, often getting the uncomfortable moodlet from doing an activity they don't like.
This is a completely CC and mod-free save file which I exclusively use for no-CC/mod gameplay.
