My sims have plenty of dogs and I have noticed that many of the dogs have the video game skill. Just now I had a sim interacting with her cat and got a wall notification that the cat had acquired the fitness skill. And I know by the verbiage that it is a sim skill and not something meant for pets.
You can see the wall notification at the top right and that it is for the cat, Mortimer.
