[CD] [W] Blacked out pets/werewolves (Patch 1.116.223)

I have no idea what happened, please help!

I was playing my Sims game, saved and exited, and when I reloaded the next day, I had this glitch. All werewolves are either missing textures/colors or are completely black... all pets are all black. I have never seen this glitch in the past, and this was prior to updating my game, so it seemed to have come out of nowhere. I tried repairing my game and I have removed all CC and mods, and issue still exists.

The fact is, this bug is effecting the ENTIRE SAVE in every household and every lot and every world that has werewolves and/or pets. What can I do?

    Heya craftysimss

We rolled out some fixes in today's patch that should have resolved this issue.

    • [EA Forums] Household members that have custom painting and are placed via Manage Households no longer lose their texture when you switch to that household. This includes Cats, Dogs, Horses, Werewolves, Fairies, and regular Sims.

Can you confirm that your The Sims 4 is fully updated and that you're seeing this on a mod free game?

No mods no CC, deleted all cache, and game is fully updated. I still had the issue. I am currently repairing my game to see if that works, and will try reloading my save after. I repaired it before the patch, so seeing if that helps to do so again after patch.

Could you double check what game version you have on the main menu ? Are you on PC or Mac ?

Did you use paint mode on these ?

How do I check the game version? I can't seem to find it. But it is fully updated.

    I am on PC.

All the black ones featured here have been paint mode, the non-black one here was a preset in game. I'd have to double check the rest in world, but it seems any preset ones are missing textures and all paint mode ones are black voids.

I still have the issue even after repairing a third time, cleared cache, no mods/cc.

And they weren't broken before the patch for you ?

You can find the version here:

That is my version, 1.116.223.1030 DX11

The bug happened right before the patch was implemented. I never had the issue before and it randomly happened.

The patch today claimed to have rectified the known issue with custom paint markings on sims and animals… was that cross platform? Or just PC master race? Still waiting for my cats to return to normalcy. So far I have 3 shadows and the only one I can tell is which is the one snowball. Which is the only one I didn’t give custom markings to.

y’all know the issue is with the markings added with the paint tool, so I shouldn’t have to go into any more detail. But it’s not back, and I’m not sure it’s addressed, or if the only way to get my cats back is to make new ones now… without their signature splotches and swirls.

I saw a “fix” posted about saving the Household to the gallery from an earlier save, which would be wonderful but the earlier save is from before I bought the cat expansion so the save file there doesn’t contain a single cat.

Also the four cats are spread across different households.

So that fix about saving the families from a previous save game to the gallery and moving them into another lot is totally not going to work.

I just opened the EA APP just to find that there is no such patch "fix" in sight for me. Since I read that it fails to fix the issue, was it revoked?

I had this happen to several of my painted pets. This happened with the last patch, not today's hotfix, and I do NOT have Businesses and Hobbies, in case that info helps.

I am also on PC and currently have no mods installed and have deleted all cache files and patched the game. This still exists on a new save.

    posted by EA_Cade Community Manager:
"Unfortunately the fix that was implemented with today's patch was not able to be made retroactive, so it won't fix already impacted game saves where the bug was occurring."

Apart from the fact that the "hotFix" is not yet visible to me in the EA APP, does this mean that the failed patch that did NOT fix our black Sims and animals will not get a new patch and we will now have to deal with the problem that YOU caused us with your penultimate, untested "update patch" alone?

Loading an old save file and loading our affected black families and animals into our library and reloading them into the game again is no real help, because a lot will get lost in the process, such as game saves, friendships and achievements already achieved, etc.

Another option would be to roll back your save to a previous version. That's what I'm going to try. It's definitely not ideal, we're going to lose progress, but it might be easier than removing and replacing all of the black pets.

Ugh. Didn't work. All the files in the save are corrupted with black pets. 🤨
