I'm also having this problem. I'm a rotational player and every time I return to a family with animals the grim reaper appears upon opening the household and immediately kills them all off. I've had to place all my animals in my inventory until this bug is solved, and any enjoyment of Cottage Life has gone. It's been months since this has been consistently reported and still all the updates focus on new pack bug fixes. Maybe sort out the existing packs first as I refuse to buy any new ones until long-standing bugs are fixed (including the annoying one where you can't ask people to leave your house when they come over on Christmas!)
