This is an open bug that was archived. I am not sure if a new bug report is meant to be made.
Animal aging is turned off in options. Aging is turned off for all sims.
I have a save file I have played for a few seasons with another sim. I changed to a another sim family (an existing played family) that I have not touched for a long time and immediately Grim appeared and reaped a chicken. All chickens and the cow are aged to be "one...last...pet.."
I think they should at the very least pull it from the options available for purchase. Or put a disclaimer. Seasons and Cottage Living have been broken for a very long time. How those packs are advertised don't relate to the in-game experience at this point. You're not alone in feeling ripped off. Many people who have been with The Sims franchise have expressed deep disappointments in how this is being handled. I don't even know who to tag at this point because I don't want to be gaslit into thinking this is my fault. I'm sorry but this forum has a purpose and if the purpose isn't working at least address it with a disclaimer that those packs are affected so that new players don't fall into the trap of thinking they'll be getting these packs in working condition. Should any of us tag any members of the team we'll be told off about what roles they have within the team. Again I'm sorry but if you have any respect for your consumers you'd forward it to someone higher up with your connections rather than nitpicking at people who have been dealing with this issue for months if not years. With the time that you'd spend replying to one of us about what you do and what not how about you spend that time listening, making a note, getting up and saying to the team do something... The Sims Staff pisses me off sometimes and I have a right to be pissed off if we're treated this way. We have developers in smaller teams with big successful games pushing regular updates and bug fixes. There's no excuse for a big company like EA with all their resources to not be able to do anything and for them to gaslight us. In the corner of my window right now I have a survey "Tell us what you think"... They'd know if they'd listen. They don't need things formally categorized, surveys and other resource wasting things. They have enough information.
I think there’s something wrong with the way animal aging in an unplayed household is handled, whether animal aging is on or off - though I agree that the fact it happens even with aging off makes what would just be a nuisance much worse. I play with animal aging on, and generally trade my chickens for meat when they reach the point you get the warning they’ll die soon. By hatching any hatchable eggs in the coop when they’re laid (which was a lot easier pre the hatchable egg bug) and trading older chickens for meat as they reach old age, I can give my household a steady supply of eggs and white meat.
However - I have a mod free save for bug testing. Because it’s for bug testing, I have a variety of households I switch between irregularly depending on what I’m testing. Last night I switched over to a farming household I hadn’t used in a while. About a day into playing the household, Grim arrived for multiple chickens, including one of the chicks, for them to die of “old age” (including the chick) despite not receiving a warning notice. Immediately after, a wild rabbit that my sim had befriended previously dug into the ground and disappeared, with a notice appearing that he too had died of old age and my sim receiving a mourning moodlet.
I noticed then that my remaining adult chickens showed “one pet left” as their age, so tried to trade them in - but none of the chickens or chicks from previous gameplay were available in the trade menu, only the chick I had just bought. The next time my sim traveled, when I returned to the lot the chicks aged up. A few minutes later, they too died of old age. Each time I traveled, more died on return until all animals from the previous time I played the household had died.
I think animal aging either shouldn’t happen in unplayed households, even with aging on, or it should at least be reflected properly when you return - chicks should not still be chicks if they’re about to die of old age, animals shouldn’t get stuck so you can’t trade them but they also don’t die until travel, and you should get the notifications when you load the household that they’re old. Better yet, if they should have died while unplayed, instead of making you start off your play in that household with a mass reaping, just let them be already gone - load in with a “while you were away, [animal] died of old age” notice and skip the sad moodlets. Maybe even put meat or ingredients in my inventory, or at least simoleons, as compensation for the loss.
(and of course if animal aging is off for the save, none of this should happen because they shouldn’t age at all)
My new chick the only one available to tradeall chickens are assigned to the coop

4 months later and even though there were updates the error is still there. I was not able to play the game for 4 months because the animals will die first second I enter the game. We pay money for this game and it´s expansions, seriously EA should get sued for this!!! I´m getting more and more frustrated. How is it possible that they don´t fix a game-breaking bug like this after 4 whole months?! >:(
Im having the same issue on xbox series x, i have every expansion pack. i have 2 farms and a ranch all my animals die even if i am playing another household i go back to farms grim appears and reaps them all. I have animal aging off and all aging off on the game. Its chickens, goats, sheep, cows, llamas also rabbits and foxes. I remember it happening before but it was fixed now the bug is back. I no longer play my ranches and farms because i know what will happen as soon as i load them, this bug is ruining my game i also have llamas stuck in my inventory i cant move or sell.
I play on PS5, I have 13 DLCs. Cottage Living was the first pack I got around 2 years ago. At first it all worked fine. I tend to play in rotation as in I'll play with one family for a few in game days and then I'll switch to another family and so on~ each with different narratives so to say. The animals I have aging off due to this context but now no matter in which fam I olay, they die~ always have the one last pet text and so on. I proceed to buy another animal and say I play for a little there~ then switch to another family and the same thing happens~ then say I go BACK to the family that just purchased say~ a cow and then a repeat, it dies. That didn't happen before... I don't know of it's the more DLCs I have the more the game breaks or the original idea I had of the game is no longer or is the updates but this actually really annoying and doesn't make me want to buy animals anymore cause it's just a waste of time (sim money) and energy EVEN when the no dying option is on which of course is devastating cause it's such an important part of the pack... help!
I'd like to learn how to update more evidence on the issue from PS5
This bug isn't going to go well for the new pack planned to be released. People will definitely be using animals with the nature themed stuff and they'll be frustrated if this persists...
I have never played with mods before, but now for this game-breaking bug I changed this. If you are just as frustrated as I am with this awful bug, just use Simularitys mod found here:
It´s super easy to "install" and takes care of the problem perfectly. Finally my cuties don´t have to die anymore.
EA should be ashamed of themselves, that they can´t fix a gamebreaking bug even after half a year and a player builds a perfectly working mod within a short time FOR FREE.
