I have this problem too.
Maxis/EA has now issued a fix, which will be coming in the new dec 2nd update. I have pasted their words below:
High School Years:
- [EA Forums] The Corndog food object is no longer using a block model (which appeared as invisible in the live version of the game). This also fixes the related issue where it didn’t appear in preview UI images.
