My sims will complain that something smells or the area is dirty around them and i will randomly find a plate with old food embedded in a chair or a high chair instead of on a surface.

I have also experienced stinky sideways plates stuck mid-air. I am able to drag these away or shift-click reset them, so that is usually how I handle this problem.
