My sim was living in a residential rental and decided to enroll in university. He's my only active sim, so I decided to move him into a university dorm that I updated as I enrolled him. When I did this, the game froze at the last screen (the screen where you manage the transfer of sims and funds between the current household and the new household with the sim moving out). I was not able to click out of that screen or proceed in any way, but was able to pull up the exit menu from my task manager, so I saved and left the game. When I reloaded, my sim had been kicked out from his residential rental, had zero household funds, and had to be found via the "not in world" section of manage worlds.
I recovered a previous save. This time I had my sim break his lease and move out of the residential rental before enrolling in university, and still this did not work. I began suspecting it was an issue with the dorm or because he was leaving behind an empty household.
In order to solve the issue, I had to add a random sim to my household. This allowed me to enroll at university and get past that last screen, so it definitely seems to be an issue with single sims moving into university.
