I wonder if they changed it back to this, because I remember them changing it so that you'd get a certificate for the specific skill classes you had taken. I can't find that bug thread, so it might've been in the old forums.
BUT, I'm almost 100% sure that this is actually by design and if they changed it back to the original state of any skill classes giving you a Mixology Certificate, it's because they realised that they made a mistake in changing it.
The reasons why I think it's by design:
- The Mixologist Branch in the Culinary Career has no degree connected to it. There are three base game Career Branches that aren't connected to degrees. The Mixologist Branch in the Culinary Career is connected to the Mixology Certificate, the Professional Athlete Branch in the Athlete Career is connected to the Soccer Team Player Afterschool Activity, and the eSport Gamer Branch in the Tech Guru Career is connected to the e-Sports Competitor Afterschool Activity.
- It's a pun. It's a pun on mixing courses.
I think the way they should fix this isn't to separate every skill into a separate certificate, but rather:
- To add a tooltip when you hover over the skill class option on the university building and on your phone, telling you that you'll receive a Mixology Certificate if you take 12 skill classes, no matter which skill classes you take, because you're mixing classes
- To add a pop-up dialogue when you receive the Mixology Certificate, congratulating you on taking mixed classes
The reasons they need to add those things is simply because many people don't understand that it's supposed to be a pun.
Another thing I think they could add to this is a Distinguished Certificate (or call it Advanced Certificate or something else) when you take, say, another 8 skill classes. As of now, all degrees have a regular degree and a distinguished degree, based on which university you go to. The Mixology Certificate only has the regular "degree", with a little silver medal on it where your education is shown in the UI (Personality tab?). The distinguished degrees have a golden medal, and it would've been nice if you could receive a golden medal on the Mixology Certificate too. So maybe it could be upgraded to a Distinguished/Advanced version if you take more skill classes. My suggestion for 8 is based on that you only need to take 8 courses for a second+ degree at university.
