[DU] Rotational gameplay is impossible for University

When playing with multiple households, it's impossible to properly experience student life because when switching between different students or families, Sims who are pursuing higher education may lose their progress or graduate prematurely. I've found similar complaints from other players online at various times, but the issue remains relevant. All students I've switched away from to other households either dropped out or experienced a significant decline in academic performance.

At the same time, when I returned to a household I hadn't played for over 400 in-game days, the head of the family still had a "Midlife Crisis," whereas students I returned to after about 40 days had completely lost their education due to poor academic performance.

I think this problem could be easily solved by linking education progress to "Aging" settings or adding an option in the "Game Pack Settings" section (where you can enable/disable fairies, werewolves, dust, etc.). I understand this might not be classified as a bug, but it's a major issue for players who actively switch between households, and it effectively cuts out university gameplay content for them and for me.

Edit By crinrict: Adjusted Title to fit old bug report. Added mod thread tag from old report.

  • I just wanted to wholeheartedly back this up. I love the Uni pack but I've only used the gameplay a couple of times because I can't switch households and have to play through until graduation. It's very sad because University was one of my favorite Sims 2 packs that I played constantly. In that version, the household progress would freeze if you switched, so you could play different dorms and bounce around.

We have two great Universities in DU that are very different from each other, would be so fun to be able to switch between them and make rival dorms. I was so bummed that we can't do this.

I play rotationally with about 15 households and never had problems when I switched households just before the anouncement of the test results, i.e. just before 6 p.m.

  • I play rotationally, too, without problems.

Just as Scorpio1959 said, you have to change households around 6 p.m. Go to the next family, but be sure to come back to the university household around 6 p.m, so the sim can enroll for the next term. It doesn't matter if the sim is in a dorm or studying from home.

  • I agree that the pack needs tuning. Discover University is simply too hard to play with enjoyment. You can't experience all of the features of the university and extra-curricular activities, unless you want your academic progress to take a hit. The big, EMPTY campuses are excessive - if they were bustling with life like city living public spaces, it would feel more alive - but I feel like the expansive space is just to make sure Sims are always running late to things because they have to run a mile away. The gameplay is too time and activity packed, I feel like the classes haven't been balanced properly, there's not enough time to explore everything, and mainly, the benefits of attending university SHOULD outweight a sim of the same age simply starting work at the same time, but it doesn't. I've found the young adult that starts work can often surpass the university entry level well before a sim has gone through university. I tested this with no mods or cc. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the university pack in the Sims 2, that was far better balanced for gameplay, and the simple feature of pausing the household progress would actually make the pack playable.

No offence to the other commenters ^^ but if that's the case of needing to switch at 6pm on a certain day, why haven't they added a notification or calander note for it? You can't have immersive simulation play if I'm trying to time and regulate my gameplay in order to make it simply work.  There are a few VERY SIMPLE fixes for this pack to make it more FUNCTIONAL ... The pack is broken, or at the very least DOES NOT run as advertised. If you can't successfully play through a game feature without using UI cheats or something, imo that means it's broken, untested, or needs tuning.

I also play rotationally and had to adjust if I decide to send sims to college. I have to make sure the semester starts on a Monday and I have to remember to come back on Fridays to reenroll and to avoid flunking out. I know this is because I'm trying to recreate the S2 version. I want to have multiple sims in at a time and ideally play them through the whole experience myself without changing my rotational play. As it is now it's more like S3 where I can only send one, must freeze global aging, and play the whole thing through in one shot to avoid problems, especially if I want to join organizations as progress glitches if I rotate away and they have to start over when I come back. Because of that I rarely have them get degrees. I can have them do it from home, but it leads to the same problems when I rotate away as what happens if they're in a dorm or housing I created for my college sims to stay in together. I assumed this was intentional and not really a bug. However it is stacked against rotational players and the S4 i supposed to be rotation friendly. It would be nice to consider this a bug and to find ways to make it rotational play friendly.
