[DU] Rotational gameplay is impossible for University

When playing with multiple households, it's impossible to properly experience student life because when switching between different students or families, Sims who are pursuing higher education may lose their progress or graduate prematurely. I've found similar complaints from other players online at various times, but the issue remains relevant. All students I've switched away from to other households either dropped out or experienced a significant decline in academic performance.

At the same time, when I returned to a household I hadn't played for over 400 in-game days, the head of the family still had a "Midlife Crisis," whereas students I returned to after about 40 days had completely lost their education due to poor academic performance.

I think this problem could be easily solved by linking education progress to "Aging" settings or adding an option in the "Game Pack Settings" section (where you can enable/disable fairies, werewolves, dust, etc.). I understand this might not be classified as a bug, but it's a major issue for players who actively switch between households, and it effectively cuts out university gameplay content for them and for me.

Edit By crinrict: Adjusted Title to fit old bug report. Added mod thread tag from old report.

  • Playing on short life span also impossible for how many credits you need/weeks it takes. Your sim is basically 50 when they graduate on short life span. An option to let us select how many credits are needed (example, four) could make this so much better for short life span, and those that do not want to spend several weeks in a row on one household without missing out on uni.

  • Yeah, I'm a rotational player but I play university differently in my rotation.

Regular play: Each family gets precisely a week, Sunday around midnight to Sunday around midnight, aging for active household only.

When a teen ages up to YA, I move them out into a new, not-in-world household named "University Students."

University play: I turn off aging (optional, but being in college your entire YA life is, like, TOO REAL) and move the university students into a new household. They spend a week gaining Research and Debate and start a household club that kind of farms points by being friendly and practicing debate. We enroll on Friday to start classes on Monday.

I used to live in the dorms but now they sometimes stay in the same lot. (Dorms does require separating the household by which university they'll attend and needs to happen before enrollment.) Having six students to move into the dorm together is kind of a thing. (Enroll -> split from household -> move into dorm -> return to original household -> repeat.)

I play this household for the entire university experience (three weeks more) and have the club XP boost all their uni skills and add "do homework" as an activity. At the end, we stay together until Saturday at 6, when they receive their diplomas.  I then move them to an empty lot, selling all furniture, and split the household in manage worlds. This sometimes involves a calculator to split the money however many ways. :D They each either move back in with their parents or get their own new place (I might have the whole uni crew move to the new place for the split).

(Aging goes back on for me Sunday at midnight with the next household.)

So, this works well for me and I enjoy it, but I feel like University was planned around one or two Sims in a non-rotational save. (Although uni does come with default students that join your household in some dorms.)  Being a crazy person who plays eight at once is kind of glitchy--sometimes I have to remind them to stop cleaning the toilet and go to their final exam.

Basically, yeah, what they said: if you want an A, you cannot rotate out of the household during the term, and they do not autonomously re-enroll.

This is exactly how I've played Uni students also, down to the club and everything! lol

Would be nice to enroll some sims I don't plan on playing with much, however, and having them complete the degree on their own

  • I made an experiment and sent one of my sims to university, put him in dorms, selected 4 subjects and left him for 3 weeks. There he managed somehow to finish it without me visiting. So probably he took same amount of classes every week to be able to finish it? Who knows. I just came to take him from dorms, where he stayed for a while, until I didn't send him to another house (as soon as I came to play as him).

I don't know his grades, I didn't get a diploma in his inventory, he started from level 7 career, so he got the normal diploma in prestige program. I was pleasantly surprised, that he even was able to finish uni without me visiting him and in the shortest period possible. I would like still get any conformation about his graduation

  • it's not working me   still would show proof my  it won't launch at all

    Upcoming Fix

    Fixed

Sims from inactive Households will now attend University classes and are less likely to fail term exams. This fix was intended for rotational play. It is not retroactively fixed in old saves.

    Fixed in Patch 1.128.90/2.39

Please create a new thread if you're still experiencing this issue. Thanks!
