Excessive Idle Phone Animations

So, while admittedly not anything game-breaking, the frequency of the idle phone-tapping animations in this game is quite disruptive to a sense of immersion, and also just extremely annoying. This is especially the case when trying to play a household that's very nature-oriented (off the grid, or just not particularly into tech), since there is no reason for such sims to be glued to their phone at all times. In fact and in my opinion, there's not really a reason for ANY sim to be glued to their phone at all times, unless it's, say, a celebrity with that fame quirk.

In terms of when this happens, I see it mostly when sims are routing from one place to another, though jogging seems to be a particularly consistent trigger for this behavior. Attached are screenshots of my werewolf sim, who somehow managed to use both front paws while rampaging, since apparently checking that Simstagram feed (or texts, or whatever) was just that important. Even if this universal phone addiction that sims have is by design, I somehow have a feeling that it is not meant to be happening in situations like the screenshots lol. Similarly (though I don't have an image of this), my sims have also been known to use their phones while half-submerged in the ocean. Which, again, seems like that's probably not the intended behavior.

I tried looking around to see if anyone else had reported this bug, but the last one I saw was from 4 years ago and was marked as solved, so... Here we are. I can live with it, as I have been for the past 3 or so years, but I would certainly rather not have to. Thanks!

(added to Laundry List) But is it really? Werewolf rampage, jogging and in water is like the barest minimum. I'd still need a bunch of mods even after that update to prevent Sims from using their phone. A toggle is more what is wanted/asked for in this thread.

The best option we have is that mod that turns off all phone idles except for teens. It works perfectly for me now and actually makes more sense.

The best option would have a feature that would replace the mod(s), as mods can get out of date.

Yeah for sure but it doesn't seem it's ever going to be fixed the way we want it. We'll need to rely on mods as this would have been a perfect time for them to tune it but they chose not to.

This was added to the laundry list but is it actually being fixed? The laundry list says that sims will not longer use their phones while jogging or swimming. However, this doesnt address the issue that sims are using their phones in the middle of getting married and in situations like in the screenshot. If this is truly only being addressed in water or while jogging, it is not fully fixed.

Indeed, the laundry list description indicates it’s not being fixed, only made less blatantly broken.

I still think a minor trait would make this bug into a feature. Deactivate all idle phone animations, until a Sims uses a phone up to a threshold, then unleash the animations. That would give texture to Simfluencers and terminally online Sims, while leaving the cottagecore Sims in peace.

Agree with everything you said. We already have at least two ways a sim could be "terminally online" one is a lifestyle [SE] (it's the opposite of the technophobe I just can't recall the name off-hand), and the other is a fame quirk I believe. A aspiration store trait would be great if we wanted Sims to be obsessed. It makes playing elder sims or any historical play so difficult, not to mention the original post (werewolf).
