Yes! This started happening to me recently, too!
It's not just painting. Cooking as well. First they break into autonomous acting practice at mirrors or with each other all the time, then when their acting skill is higher they break into autonomous musical numbers in the middle of painting or cooking and then the other Sims in the family stop to watch them. It's driving me insane! 😅 I thought it was just my game borked because I'm using a family I rescued from my previous save which had the "lots disappearing when traveling" bug, so I thought maybe the family was hosed, but I'm relieved to see I'm not alone!!!
Repairing the game, clearing cache do nothing to stop this behavior.
I don't have any mods or CC and I have all the packs and this is a new save (just with a a previously used family and lot from a prior save.)
