Household Sims automatically follows Sims/Can't send home

I had 2 of my Sims visit the pottery studio while their dad was at work. When he got off work, he just showed up at the studio instead of going home. When I was ready for everyone to leave, they kept coming back in like 3 seconds. Even after it would show they had left the world and were back home, they would pop back up on the street. I exited the game and repaired, I tried resetting my Sims, but the only way I was able to get them all home was to continually hit the home button until they all made it out of the street. I'm glad they made it home, but also really don't want that to happen again. Anyone else deal with this issue or have a fix? (I have no mods, just base game and expansions)
