[LD] Cannot create new will after destroying old

I am unable to create a new will after selecting "Destroy will" or bringing a sim back to life. The option to create a will is greyed out with the note "X sim already has a will". No will is in the sims inventory.

One sim died of old age. The will was created before the sim died, the family moved, will never came in the mail to read out loud for heirlooms to be passed down. Sim proceeded to eat ambrosia to come back to life and cannot create a new will.

Second sim I pressed the option "Destroy will" in curiosity (bad move) and now cannot create a new will via any means (computer, inheritance lawyer, or town hall.)

I've tested by removing all mods, restarting game, copying/reloading save, and with a new clean save.

Edit By Crinrict: Added pack tag to title.

  • Same. Not sure how I lost the Will, but I can't create one by any means.

  • It started with it not sending to my sims that were left in the will - it now won’t even let me create one. I’ve removed all mods and it still doesn’t work… I’m also getting a lot of bugs like everyone else, hight school as an event etc.

I have all the sims expansions, game packs ( bar journey of batu and the strangerville one)

I don’t know I’m just an unfortunate player that’s being hit by this but it’s really frustrating.

    Hi siobhanmcgovern

is this all happening on a specific save or did you also test on a new one ?

Were the Sims you left things to living in a different household ?

Here is a procedure to reproduce on a fresh save.  No mods enabled.  This bug has nothing to do with heirloom passing, or a will being sent to another Sim.  Once a Sim dies wills seem to become permanently locked, even after resurrection.  This makes any Sim unable to change any Will details after resurrection, including Heirlooms, simoleons, or remains.  Untested if a future final death would trigger any Will properties set before the first death.

    1. Create Will (all will interactions work)
    2. Sim Dies, lives as playable ghost (will interactions limited to only "Destroy Will", as expected)
    3. Resurrect Sim with Ambrosia (will interactions still limited to destroy only)
    4. Destroy Will, attempt to create new will via computer says "already has a will"

Save files for each step available as Google Drive link upon request.

  • I had this happen to me as well. My sim, a teenager fairy died of urban myth. I then make her a playable ghost and notice, nothing happen when she died for the will to be executed. So the heirloom she had selected to be given to a family member is no where to be seen, the message and emotion she left also never got displayed... not sure of sims are supposed to get the Will a certain way and read it for this to happen, but I havent received mail or notification for that matter. After her death, she had her will in her inventory, with the only option to Destroy the Will. I gave her ambrosia, turning her back to live and she also only had the option to destroy the Will... after I Destroyed it, I tried to create a new one and it was not possible, like everyone else here on this topic, saying that she already had one.

I have all DLC and don't use mods.

I play on console (so no mods/cc) and this happened to two sims in my game

  • Having this issue as well. My game crashed, ended up saying some of my packs were missing. After I repaired and updated my game, the will in my inventory was missing. Sim cannot create new will because option on computer says she already started a will.
