Legacy Family Trees: Tree collapses/Overlaps/Shows wrong connections
I opened up an older file that I played thru 11 generations just to test out the new family tree. It doesn't happen for all sims but sometimes I will select a sim and they disappear and the whole tree collapses.
So this is the way the tree looks like when i have ashley's father selected (he's off to the right out of frame). If i click on her portrait it looks like this
So some of the relatives are still there but plenty are missing. This is the whole tree that shows, quite collapsed. Hovering over the portraits does display the correct relation to Ashley but as you can see, she isn't there at all. If i select her great-granddaughter it comes back
This is happening with Ashley and all four of her children. Her sister and her sister's children show up normally. Every generation before and after appear to be fine, but i have not clicked every portrait.
Is anyone else getting confused with this new family tree? I suppose it works okay if you don't have a large extended family but there is a lot of overlapping on mine and it is actually harder to find my direct lineage. My siblings, cousins, and extended family overlap and its hard to tell who is the ancestors and who is an aunt, uncle or cousin.
For whatever reason, when I open Freya's family tree, it looks like this and idk what to do about it.
But when I open Madison's family tree (Freya is her mom and she's married to a sim named Zane, NOT Mitchell Kalani), it puts this sim named Kayla and Mitchell in Freya and Zane's place, even though they are her aunt and uncle.
This is how the family tree looks like after the newest update when viewing it from my gen 5 sim Mateo (his father, and his grandfather's fairy half-sister are missing, there are confusing connections that aren't real like some marriages or what looks like Mateo's sister but in reality is only a "Distant Relative" a.k.a second cousin)
This is how the family tree looks like from the legacy founder's point of view (actually clean, all info is correct)
All info is correct when viewed by literally anyone EXCEPT Mateo, and I can only suspect there's a case of overlapping portraits, which would explain what looks like a double-marriage or weird-looking lines. I haven't saved after the update yet, this bugs me too much to play. I have removed the localthumbcache file and moved the mods folder for the purpose of testing the game in it's vanilla state.
Yup. I went to check out the new family tree stuff using one of my larger/messier extended families, and even though it's small compared to legacy gameplay (3 gens/24 sims, including a nonexistent placeholder sim the tree puts in place to connect some siblings) there's some sims that keep overlapping in one spot, but not always? It depends on which sim is selected.
The family consists of one (placeholder) sim on the top row, their 4 kids (and their 2, 0, 3, and 1 partner(s) respectively) on the second row, and 12 kids on the third row. But Rigel (the youngest of the blue kids) keeps overlapping with his cousins. Which cousin he overlaps with changes depending on which family member is selected, and in a few cases, you can actually see all the sims' pictures but they aren't grouped in their (half)-sibling groups properly and the lines overlap in a messy/confusing way. The third set of siblings (Jenny's kids) don't glitch out at all.
I'm also unclear about how the family tree chooses to display sims' partners on the tree when they have children with multiple other sims. Based on this sample size of one (lol) it seems to me that when they have children with two different sims, both partners appear at once, but once you get to 3 co-parents, only one shows up (without changing the tree pov to one of the other kids) ? And while I would expect (assuming all partners have the same relationship status with the sim) the most recent partner to display in that situation, it seems to pick the earliest one? Is that behaviour consistent with what other people are seeing? And is it the intended behaviour?
But yeah. While I like the better relationship labelling, the tree itself does not seem to be happy with the changes.
(there have been mods in this save but they were removed and cache files were deleted before these pictures were taken. also, i can provide pictures of what the tree looks like from the pov of each sim on the tree, if that's helpful for figuring out any potential patterns of when the tree collapsing/overlapping happens)
