Micro Stutters Despite Stable FPS (Patch 1.117.221)

Ever since the last update (which was supposed to improve performance), I’ve been experiencing micro stutters whenever I move the camera around in-game. The FPS counter shows a stable 60 FPS, but the camera movement isn’t smooth anymore.

For reference, I’m running the game on an AMD RX 7700 XT. Before the update, the game felt smoother at the same settings.

Is anyone else running into this issue?

    Hi everyone,

Since the last update ("Performance updates and bug fixes!"), I’ve noticed that the game’s graphic performance has actually gotten worse. It no longer feels smooth or fluid — instead, it constantly runs with little micro-stutters. They’re not huge freezes, more like small hitching, but it makes the game feel off compared to before the patch.

I’ve tried everything I can think of: updated drivers, reinstalled them, tested with V-Sync on and off, repaired the game, fully reinstalled the game, even started a brand new save with zero mods (completely emptied the Sims 4 folder in Documents, including screenshots, etc). The issue is always the same.

Before this update, the game ran perfectly on my RTX 5070, and even back when I was using a 4060 it was smooth. Now, with the 5070, I’m seeing this constant stuttering despite the framerate being stable (around 80 fps). It’s not a low framerate issue, it’s just not smooth anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this since the update?

I tried with DX 9 and it worked. Please, The Sims 4 is an expensive franchise, objectively. Invest in good programmers and let them do their job properly. None of this makes any sense.

I have installed some new Windows 11 stuff and it threw my Nvidia GPU for a loop and erased my settings there so suddenly the screen was tearing and it was a mess. It's still not great, I'll try DX9 again to see if that helps. They're 'updating' and  'improving ' the game but yeah it seems like they're just making it worse. Just after B&H it was pretty okay, but now it's becoming more and more sluggish. I don't even have the new pack. Soon they'll probably remove the DX9 option and we will all be in trouble though.

Yes!  This used to be smooth, I could easily stream my game and build and it was all flawless! Now just adding a door, moving the camera or give sims a command..makes it all stutter and slow down. It's like molasses has been poured into the game. I'm playing vanilla now because the game can't really handle mods on top of this mess.

  • We should not have to resort to using DX9. My GPU (Nvidia RTX 4090) is MORE than capable of running a DX11 game. I too have micro stutters since 1.117.221. Before I was having smooth scrolling on 64x64 heavily built lots. I have removed all my mods and cleared all game cache files and ran a clean new save. Something in the last update has really messed up.

I'm STILL having this issue almost a month after the update. Doesn't matter if I lower my graphics, remove mods and CC, repair the game or delete the localthumbcache.

Mine is doing this badly. It's worse in Henford On Bagley for some reason especially in certain houses on the second floor.

  • I previously upvoted this issue but would like to say that since I have enabled the memory boost feature that became available as of 9/23/25, they have stopped for me in the existing save I loaded into.  I haven't tried a new save.  I would suggest anybody having this issue give the early access memory boost a try to see if it also helps you.
