Micro Stutters Despite Stable FPS (Patch 1.117.221)

Ever since the last update (which was supposed to improve performance), I’ve been experiencing micro stutters whenever I move the camera around in-game. The FPS counter shows a stable 60 FPS, but the camera movement isn’t smooth anymore.

For reference, I’m running the game on an AMD RX 7700 XT. Before the update, the game felt smoother at the same settings.

Is anyone else running into this issue?

I'm having issues with gfx stuttering since the last update, too. The game is still playable, of course, but it's very annoying. This is with both standard DirextX 11 and when using the option "-dx9".

This does not occur constantly; it's more like there is some background work being done every few seconds.

For example, in San Myshuno, when the camera drops or rises several floors in a short period of time, the stuttering is sometimes very bad, like only 5 animation frames for the entire movement. Everything is affected: on the blue loading screens, the rotating plumbob and the text stutter, windows like Simology etc. stutter when they open or close, walking sims suddenly rush forward about a foot, etc.

Whatever they tried to improve performance with the latest update seems to have backfired somewhat. "Enhanced rendering performance for smoother visuals" - not really, no.

I saw this in my game after the 8/19 update as well, just tiny little stutters as I'd pan and rotate around the lot while playing.  I had the same feeling as AxelRogat, it would happen every couple seconds as if some little process had to run in the background.  Even after reading the entire thread puzzlezaddict linked I had no idea what I was supposed to change and where/how to find it, not that I'd really be comfortable editing code to begin with.  Instead I changed my settings to DirectX9 and at least for me that resolved the issue, everything's moving smoothly again.

  • I'm having same issue. The game keeps stuttering even on Direct x 11.

I'm having the same issue, the camera is choppy after the last update, besides othe problems like freezing, which never happened before (no mods). I hope they fix it soon.

  • I am having this issue as well - mostly noticeable during camera movements and scrolling. I've tried Directx9 and 11 but nothing has changed. Before the update I never had any framerate/stuttering issues.

I've tried removing mods, new saves, and resolution settings but can't find out the cause.

  • Same issue, game was smooth before the 19 August update, I have good pc and switching to dx 9 doesn't do much

I spend days installing different nvidia drivers I thought maybe it's from the drivers ALL other games runs fine

What EA are doing ? Making performance worse on DX 11? The game is NOT enjoyable at all constant stutter when moving the camera

  • Prior to the 8/19/25 patch my game had been running flawlessly in DX11.  Now, though, I am experiencing not only micro stutters but also much more lag with actions dropping into the queue.  My frame rate has been holding steady, even with the micro stutters.  I tried running in DX9 but that was worse for me as it caused some rippling lines, especially in two story homes when switching between floors.  I unchecked DX9 and went back to DX11.

I saw the link to the post with the suggestion to edit the GraphicsRules.sgr but I honestly don't feel comfortable with altering even a copy of that file.  That's especially true as I was left with the impression that the OP had guessed at what was edited and the values changed to.  It didn't feel like a definitive guide to me.  I was going to just take a look at it but I couldn't find the GraphicsRules.sgr file on my computer.  Perhaps a sign to me to leave it alone?  It has to be there somewhere. :)

I am attaching a dxdiag just in case it is needed for information gathering on affected systems.  I do play on PC and have never used mods or cc in my game.
