I did some testing. As MapleSimmer and Lavvrushka said I believe this is tied to the upcoming events. If I disable the DLC packs that have rewards tied to them in the deck the halls event, the 'new' markings go away. More specifically I disabled cats and dogs, adventure awaits and businesses and hobbies. If these 3 are disabled, everything is fine. As soon as I enable them again, the faulty 'new' tags reappear. So the items that cause these problems are part of those 3 DLC . Since I didn't add any DLC this week and the only things added to my game were in the patch, I am convinced it's the reward items. I hope this means they will go away if I succeed in logging on enough during the holidays.
