NPC Sims wear random cold/hot weather outfits not assigned

We REALLY need these random generated townie outfits to be fixed. Hear me out, there's a reason I think it might be a bug. This issue happens to my active sims too, sims that I've put a lot of work into, not just NPCs. And it is primarily occurring with the hot and cold weather outfits! I will put together outfits for both active and unactive sims, played and unplayed. But when those sims generate on a lot somewhere, or when you see their thumbnail (such as the relationship panel) they are never in their own outfits. The game just randomly throws something together instead of loading the appropriate garbs. It seems the more packs you have, the more outrageous the randomly generated outfits become. . For some reason when out in the world (and sometimes even as you load up your household on their own lot, they load with random clothes on instead of the outfit you literally just made for them) it is not always registering when sims have premade outfits already assigned to them. Like I said, it seems like most of these issues happen with hot and cold weather outfit categories. The game just doesn't like to load them for some reason. If its the household you are actively playing and you go to change outfit, all the outfits you made are still there, and when you change into them everything is fine again. It is just when sims are either generated by the game, when you see their thumbnail like in the relationship panel or in pop-up messages, or when sims are loading into lots. And its not every time, but it is very frequent. I don't love when I spend 3 hours in CAS meticulously planning 5 perfect outfits for every category....And then I see that sim out and about still in the most absurd get up ever. Like why is my recently revamped Mortimer in a purple sequence vest, hiking boots, super short gyms shorts, with his eyebrow pierced and wearing a top hat...... Maybe its just because I have more packs now but I don't remember it ever being this bad before. This problem has become very pronounced. Now, this part may or may not be a bug, but the randomly generated townies and their outfits are just a bit too, well, random. It is way too time consuming to fix every weird looking townie and their outfits. But I feel like I don't really have a choice because playing with them looking like that really bothers me lol. And  Also, even more than just the clothes, random generated townies even just look weird physically. The characteristics they end up with just don't fit together. It is just a random mish-mash of inorganic looking features. Surely there has got to be a better way?

That post is 6 years old but doesn't look like there has been any fix or answer yet. But yep, that first one is definitely the same issue I am having, just read through all the comments as well. And it has been getting worse over time! At least for me it has. It gets worse the more packs I have, I think. Because stuff becomes more random...

    Thanks for confirming.

I encourage you to post in the related AHQ thread as well. This forum is currently still in soft-launch so make sure you bump the AHQ  thread (it receives regular me toos but hasn't been bumped in a while) adding your voice.

    (Not OP)

I’ve never seen this with my Sims, but several of my pre-made townies (like Joaquin Lechain and Sergio Romero) have been showing up with weirdly randomized outfits. The instances I noticed this were of Cold Weather outfits during Winter; the randomized outfit had overwritten their default in the same category.

TBF, I seldom play pre-made townies, so I can’t say for sure if the outfits would be there if I played that household, but there were several instances where my fashion photographer got them into CAS using the Plan Outfits for Fashion Subject interaction and the randomized outfits were there alright.

Hi! Just saw your post and I'm currently having the same issue as you. Incredibly, in 5 months the bug is still there. If you find a workaround for this, I'd be happy to know!

Saw this too! But on my side, it's affecting ALL NPCs (even the weird random-generated ones to fill community lots). I'm speaking for myself, but on my side, it doesn't appear on their current outfits. It pops from nowhere (see attached). I don't know if it helps or not! ;)

(PS: This character is a part of the "Karaoke Legends" pre-made townies from City Living, the roommates).

  • I don't know if this is relevant, but... If you have HSY Thrifty Tea lots can generate some pretty sensational outfits. You don't need to visit the lots to see this, any Sim (your's or NPC's) generated in the area can be effected. These outfits can persist, but - like situational outfits - they usually work their way out. I play rotationally and sometimes find my Sims dressed in wild outfits. I figure they're just being "Trendi" - Sorry.
