This problem has been going on for a month or so now and it happens across households. It is most noticeable when I have a sim cook food but it also happens when a sim eats food or is doing homework or reading.
First example is when a sim goes to cook and gets food from the fridge, they will ignore that there is a coffee pot or microwave on the counter and prepare food on top of the item even when there is plenty of counter or island space to do so. I don't find that it happens quite as often in the preparation process as it does when they are done cooking and go to sit the meal down. They will sit it on the coffee pot or microwave. But it's not like on top of them, it is inside them. You can see this in the following screenshots and that there is plenty of counter space all around so there is no reason this should be happening as far as I can see.
This also happens with desks that have computers on them. Sims will sit down at the desk to do homework and have their book open on top of the keyboard and be writing. Occasionally they will also sit down at a desk and eat food that way as well. I find it odd when there is plenty of tablespace or even they could sit on a couch or something. It's like they do not recognize that there is a keyboard there .
