Ideas
I have also encountered a similar issue.
I have observed two cases where Sims gain romance with Sims they are not romantically attracted to:
⸻
Case 1: Serenade during group conversations
Suppose Sim A and Sim B are in a romantic relationship, and Sim C (who is not romantically involved with either Sim) is part of the same group conversation.
When Sim A performs a Serenade for Sim B, romance increases not only between Sim A and Sim B, but also between Sim A and Sim C after the interaction ends. However, this does not happen every time.
I also experienced a situation similar to what Nightgypsy reported:
During a group conversation, Sim A performs a Serenade for Sim B. If Sim B leaves for work in the middle of the interaction and only Sim C remains, romance increases only between Sim A and Sim C.
In these cases, sexual orientation and family relationships are completely ignored. Romance can increase even between two heterosexual male Sims, or between related family members.
⸻
Case 2: Certain romance-generating introductions (e.g., Enchanting Introduction)
Some introductions, such as Enchanting Introduction, generate romance without taking sexual orientation into account.
As a result, romance increases between Sims whose orientations do not match.
The playable Sim performs this autonomously, and NPC Sims do so as well. It even occurs with Sims that are set to never engage in romance.
I have observed the following cases:
- A heterosexual female Sim using it on another female Sim, resulting in romance gain
- A heterosexual male Sim using it on another male Sim, resulting in romance gain
- A homosexual female Sim using it on a male Sim, resulting in romance gain
- A Sim with no romantic attraction to any gender using it on a female Sim, resulting in romance gain
Additionally, these interactions ignore not only sexual orientation, but also marital status and traits such as Loyal. I believe this may be a major cause of unintended cheating.
While some romance-increasing introductions trigger jealousy when performed in front of a spouse, the Enchanting Introduction appears to generate romance without causing jealousy.
⸻
Suggestion
I would like to request the following adjustments:
- Serenade should only increase romance with the intended target Sim
- Romance-generating introductions should more strictly respect:
- sexual orientation
- relationship status (e.g., spouse)
- traits (e.g., Loyal , CommitmentIssues)
- and autonomy rules related to cheating behavior

I have boiled what happened down to serenade bleed over, in my game anyway. I created a new bug report that is more appropriately titled and explained. If you feel that your issue is still in line with this you might want to copy your post to the new one as we will have a better chance of more people with the problem recognizing the bug report as what is happening to them. Here is the link to the new report.
