I've had this happen a few times in my game (I can't remember when it started). When my Sims are eating or drinking, after they clean up, the glass or plate will stay in their hand.
They will go about everything normally, as if it's not there, but the glass or plate will eventually get the green gas indicating it's spoiled. It does go away eventually, but the solution isn't the same each time.

I had a Sim in a university dorm with a mini fridge and microwave, and anytime he got a quick meal he wouldn't have the correct holding animation for the plate or bowl. He would have his arm down at his side as if he wasn't eating anything. He would remain like this until he finished walking over to the place where he wanted to eat, where his bowl/plate would go to the normal animation and he would continue eating. This doesn't seem to happen with homecooked meals. I'm not sure if this is a mini fridge/microwave bug or a quick meal one.
My Sims has graduated so I will check tonight if it's happening at his house too. I have only seen it happen in dorms, but also the only times my Sims use microwaves, mini fridges, and quick meals are in dorms.
I managed to get a screenshot of him holding the plate wrong. This is a breakfast burrito, so a microwaveable item. He brought the plate back up once he started eating. This is not only at the dorms because I got this photo at his house. This animation bug does not effect children as I had his younger sister try as well.
Here are more screenshots. I have found that it seems to be an issue with the microwave. I tried getting a quick meal out of a normal fridge as well as a quick meal from the mini without the microwave and it only does it for the microwaved ones. It's not just the breakfast burrito either because in the second photo I showed that it did it with pizza rolls as well. The first photo shows my sim going to was the dish, so he put it back by his side after he finished eating.
I merged this with the stuck plates thread then. Good to know that you can replicate it. Will help fixing this.

Whenever my Sim does something with the microwave, they carry their food in this weird way with the plate glued to their hand. I think this video shows it best :)
I had only one mod for build and buy. I removed mod from the folder and disabled the mods in the game. Bug is still going on.
Tested in two different saves.
Base game + tiny living.
I also found this visual bug when ordering drinks from a servo with the party machine module.
To illustrate, when you order food, the sim gets the food from servo using his left hand, the plate gets stuck on his left hand and then he performs the eating animation while the plate is still stuck on his left hand. Resulting in this:
I read that sims have different dominant hands, and I think this visual bug may be caused by a sim having a dominant hand that is incompatible with the animation. When a sim with a compatible dominant hand gets the plate from servo, the eating/holding the plate animation plays correctly, like here:
This has been happening for me recently (since the latest patch I think) when an adult gets food to feed a toddler in the high chair. The bowl/plate ends up stuck to their hand and doesn't get delivered to the toddler. I end up resetting the adult, and even then I can't drag the food to the high chair, but instead have to put it in the toddler's inventory. I'm on PS5 so no mods involved.
