In my save file, I’ve noticed that Sims especially switch dynasties if their father belongs to a different one. For example, I have a Sim whose parents are divorced. She had always belonged to the same dynasty since birth, the one ruled by her mother (she’s even the heir), but now the game automatically moves her to the dynasty her father joined after remarrying — a dynasty she had never belonged to before. And her father isn’t even the ruler of that dynasty; his second wife is, since she founded it.
The same thing happened with one of Cordelia’s sons. He married Amarachi Darong and joined her dynasty. They had three children who were all born into that dynasty, but now both he and the three children are suddenly listed under the Thebes dynasty.
For the first case, I tested removing the father from his wife’s dynasty so that he belonged to no dynasty at all, since he’s not an important character anyway. As soon as I did that, the daughter went back to the correct dynasty — her mother’s. If there is no father, the game also automatically places them in the mother’s dynasty.
So my conclusion, in case it helps EA fix the issue, is this: Sims are reverting back to the dynasties of their parents even after marrying into another dynasty or founding a completely new one themselves. However, if the parents belong to different dynasties, the game always prioritizes the father’s dynasty. They only revert to the mother’s dynasty if the father does not exist, is dead, or does not belong to any dynasty.

I also have this issue. I've tried removing the Sims from the dynasties, but as soon as I travel etc when the game loads up again, I get a message about so and so having joined the dynasty. It's incredibly annoying. I've tested it with and without mods plus on a fresh save (no mods) and the issue persists.

I have the same issue, my sims are belonging now to 3 dynasties, Jeong is the main, then Ibarra is the second one coming from the wife relatives and Kay is coming from the husband relatives. If I remove them from the Ibarra and Kay they temporarily revert to the Jeong one, BUT: I cannot see any perks - although Jeong dynasty is at max level with all perks active and I cannot hire a tutor. Probably because Kay dynasty has no perks. If I use CAS or travel, all my sims - including kids are messed up again. Extremely annoying!

Bump1nTheNight I just saw a comment under a youtube video about TS4 latest bugs and problems. Directly copying it, someone said:
"I used to be a computer programmer for a big company. My job was to fix other programmer's programs that had bugs. The code was ancient and undocumented. I kept feeling like I was putting band-aids over top of other band-aids. I suggested to the team that we rewrite the system from scratch. My boss didn't like that, but it was a never-ending patch upon patch. After a year I left that company and slept better at night."
Sounds like the root problem. That's probably exactly what they are dealing with. The sims 4 first came out in 2014, so the base game code is ancient by now. And tons of expansions, game packs are added over time. No sims game has ever lasted for this long and got so many packs. Sims 1, 2, 3, only lasted for like 3-4 years before the next game come out. We should have switched to the sims 5 at least 5-6 years ago and should be getting ready for the sims 6 by now. But instead they keep patching the same old code and adding more and more problems to it while trying to add more packs, features that require more fixes and it inevitably has become a never ending vicious cycle at this point. - Frantztztz7 days agoSeasoned Adventurer
I don't exactly have the same issue but each time I load a lot or go out of CAS, I have pop-ups telling me that sims entered the dynasty (of the family I'm playing) even if they were already in this dynasty.

What has been happening in my game, since the latest update, is if I go into CAS, the list of family members who are already in the dynasty, keeps popping up. Oi! So far, it only seems to be the family itself, but one Sim who is affiliated with that family did make reference to our dynasty. Keep your pants on Captain Drake, your daughter isn't yet officially a dynasty member, good grief.

I have the same issue, it is a pain in the **bleep**. Has anyone found any proper workarounds? The two dynasties in question for me, both have maximum prestige, so I would rather not have to make a new Dynasty

There's a character who shouldn't be in a dynasty, but their father and mother are. I go to this character, and I get a notification: joining a dynasty!
I left the dynasty.
I went into CAS, needing to edit something. I exited back to game mode, and the same notification about joining a dynasty appeared again.
This didn't happen before the May 12th update.

This is making me want to just delete all dynasties until it's fixed or else I can't play. Really hope they can fix this quickly

Look, I used to be a programmer, so I understand that sometimes bug just happen, but a bug like this is ridiculous and how long is it going to be before it's fixed? A week? Yeah right, and monkeys might fly out of my ears. A month? Unlikely. Probably six months or more.
Prove me wrong, EA.
