[S] Getting Gifts from Father Winter doesn't work properly

Across many saves, families, generations, and Winterfests, mods, no mods.  The past few real life months my toddlers ask Clement Frost for a present, toddler gets excited, Father Winter belly laughs, no present

Edit By Crinrict: Adjusted Title fit bug report at AHQ

  • I thought this was fixed in a patch within the last few months or so. My toddlers cannot get gifts still from father winter.

  • I couldn't find the topic in 3 different searches of these forums so I made a new post, but now I have the post, I'll add it here. Sorry I made a duplicate.

I've been having trouble with this for a while- since some update around when either "romance" or "Life and Death" came out.

Previously: toddlers could "ask for present" from father winter once they had used "talk to stranger" on him, and get a present. Queued actions to "ask for present" would fail if the toddler hadn't done any previous "introduction" type actions on father winter.

This used to be the same for older sims as well, but when it was last altered, it was only working for toddlers. Other sims, child age and older, did/do not get "ask for present" anywhere in their social menu options. The only option is "fight father winter for presents" from young adult and older (teens may have the option, but I haven't checked. Children do not.) This makes it very hard to complete the holiday quests successfully ("holiday successful!" notification), as the toddlers and children generally only care about presents.

Now: since the updates closest to the sims anniversary have happened, my toddlers can see the "ask for present" option only when they have never interacted with father winter before. They still cannot "ask for present" without doing an introductory social first, or the interaction will fail/disappear/remove from queue with no result. BUT, once they have introduced themselves, the "ask for present" option disappears.

So it only happens when 1) father winter is not otherwise engaged in an action (such as talking to another sim), 2) the toddler queues up both actions, and 3) father winter and the toddler are not interrupted in the entire sequence resolution.

I have had mods turned off for the past year, and it does not matter which save file (or a new game) I use.

  • This issue seems to be fixed in today's patch. (PC: 1.113.297.1020). Toddler, Child, Young Adult and Adult sims were all able to "ask for present" from Father Winter, and receive a present. I'm not saying it won't "un-fix" in a later edition, but it was working for me just now.

EDIT: I was able to check, my toddler received the gift, as did my child and the adults. However, both toddler and child did not complete the tradition. For them, the Father Winter icon was with the heart (meaning they love the tradition), while the adults completed the tradition normally (for them the icon was neutral).

    omg I'm buggin outtttttt!!!

my child is NOT able to ask Father Christmas for a gift which sucks cos they care the most. I tried everything that's been suggested, making sure he's not in a household already- he's not! I used the cheat to 'Reset Object (debug)' on Father Christmas AND my child, I exited the game and came back, everything is up to date so I have no idea why this is happening...

I will happily try out any other suggestions if I've missed anything, I feel bad for the kid.
