I thought this bug had been patched, but apparently it persists. I tried to make it go away with the potion, then I faced the fear of the dark honestly, but the buff reappears even though I no longer have the trait in the simology. There's no way to get rid of that annoying buff.
Is it possible that I have to live with this bug and constantly see my Sim scared, even without the fear?
I don't use any mods and the game is updated to the current version (screenshot attached).

Try applying the “Darkness Phobia” cheat to your Sim, then use the official method (gaining confidence in the dark) to overcome the fear. That's how I fixed it.
