I have noticed many of my sims don't place the plate of food in the correct spot on the table. They will place it down, sometimes after picking it up/placing it down multiple times, then will proceed to sit on a different chair to where the food is. The Sims will still eat the food but the animation is in the wrong place, and sometimes their arms stretch out weirdly trying to reach to where the food is.
This is happening even when there is nothing on the table blocking their ability to put the food in the correct place, or blocking the use of other dining chairs. It seems more common with round dining tables, but it may not be exclusive to them.
I play with mods/CC, however, I have tested this without mods/cc, and it has occurred on a new mod-free save file. This seems to be an animation issue, or an issue with how the sims determine where the food can be placed. This has occurred in several different save files with different Sims, including, adult/young adult, teen and child Sims.
