Stuck on Saving Screen after Placing Stairs

Basically what the title says. I bought the Businesses and Hobbies EP for my game. First and only expansion pack or game pack I own. (Mac)

Playing happily with a sim, messing around in build buy, then i try to save. Stuck on the saving screen for an hour. So I take out all my mods, try again. Same issue. Went through the steps I did in build buy. Everything is fine until I try placing stairs. Suddenly I can’t move or delete the stairs or fences (says ‘object does not exist’), or place any new stairs. When I try to save, I am stuck on the saving screen, and can only fix by force quitting. This is a problem with multiple different kinds of stairs.

(p.s. haven’t played since before the BG update & subsequent patch so could be that too)

Marking this as resolved for now then. Do come back if you have further issues without mods/cc.

If it turns out to be something related to a mod, use the mod forum for further help.

  • Okay, so I started a new save (on the new repaired game), put the old character and house in, and i'm not getting the issue now??? Seems like it was just one weird save file??? I'm so sorry for wasting your time. I still haven't tested with mods, saved screenshots/vids etc, but it seems like just a weird one off thing. If u have any ideas why that happened it'd be good to know but yeah 😭 thankyou again

I'll see if a builder can help you further.

  • Put save file back. Issue is back again... this is so annoying 😭 it must be something wrong with my save, then. I'll try making a new one since I have this sim & house saved in the library; any other ideas??

Edit to add: thankyou so so so much for helping out btw its super kind of u!!!

By repaired original file you mean you recovered the original user folder ?  If you have issues with laptop closing down, it's best if you post in The Sims 4 Technical Issues - PC

Instructions to get your stuff back

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)- Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.

Tried this. Started up my game and my entire laptop shut down and I had to restart it. (This is a common occurrence with sims 4 since the patch as well, idk how to fix it either 😭 )

  • Issue is gone. Everything seems to be working fine now. Should i delete the new game file & rename the old one back to sims 4 and try repairing that?

  • Hi auroraoverthesea

Did your game also crash to the desktop or just stuck ?

    Try this

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry.
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.
