Time/Sim freezes while environment still moves

This is a very specific bug symptom so please only post here if you see all of the below in your game.

There are many similar issues, so this should be kept to this issue only.

This can either be an extreme lag or a total freeze.

Symptoms in the game

  • Time stand still although there can be a delay where time moves for a but when part of UI is frozen
  • You can't click on anything
  • Sims move but do interactions endlessly
  • Environment moves
  • If you have multiple household members, you can't switch between them.
  • Going to the map in this state can lead to endless loading
  • You can still switch to build mode but only delete one item.
  • Not all households are affected. Unsure what causes it.

Unsure/More info needed

  • It start happening at a specific time
  • Computer starts to use up a lot of the resources

Not this issue

  • Hello there, I'm also having this issue in my legacy save. I bought Business and Hobbies yesterday but before installing the newest pack and patch, I've had this issue once when my sims went on a festival in San Myshuno but it lasted for a few seconds (probably when I was playing a few days ago). My game freezes at the exact same gamplay time and it's 1:46am, a day before Winterfest. I thought it might have been the issue with Father Winter but they fixed it long ago. I removed Winterfest from the calendar but that did nothing. I've tried repairing the game, recovering a backup save, deleted the sims 4 folder to run the game in a clean state,  running my game without mods (I only use CC, MCCC, UI Cheats and BE) but it only crashed when I tried to load my family. I always keep my mods up to date so I don't know what is the issue, everything works but the time won't get past 1:46am. I've tried playing in other households - some that are not related to my sims' family and some that are - and the time stopped at 1:46am in every household. From live mode I can switch to build mode only to move objects and place them in the exact same spot as they were also the enviroment and sims are still moving in build mode.

Thank you for any help or info on that issue!

UPDATE: I moved my family to a clean save file, and this happened again on the first day of spring. Now time stops at 9:05 am and I've been playing on this save for not even a whole month. Now I'm reinstalling the game, because I don't know what to try anymore.

  • I’ve been having this issues since the L&D patch. When playing the game it will freeze and the sims will do the same animation over and over. Time on the clock will move to like midnight and then back to time it was before it froze. The world will go from light to dark. It used to be around 20-30 minutes. But, now it’s freezing for over an hour. It makes the game unplayable.

I am currently having the same issue. Once it changed to winter, my game can't make it past 4am. I thought it was Father Winter. So I deleted him out of the calendar and checked all my mods and took mods out that could've been the issue, but it is still not working. I am so lost.

  • I've also been having this issue and have spoken to other players who are experiencing this too. I've reset the sims in my household, moved lots, reset the sims, performed a game fix etc and it still does it. happens to mine between 4 to 6am and the only fix is to save my game but that takes forever and makes it almost unplayable.

  • a solution that helped me a lot was to disable automatic online reconnection in the game settings, I start the game with the PC connected online (so if it has to do something it does) then I put "airplane mode", and the game runs better.
If I need to enter the gallery I reconnect by disabling the airplane mode.
