what platform are you playing on ?
I gave this some tests and I can see several things happening
- Going to CAS: The progress resets to almost empty at first but then quickly fills up to almost where it was before
- Travelling: Some progress is lost but not a lot.
- Cancel/Resume: Starts where it should.
- Reload save: Seems to have a small loss
Can you test these four cases and see what happens for you ?
I also find the timer rather unpredictable. It doesn't go forward steadily but rather jumps.
