I hit this bug a while back in my main save with mods/CC installed. It happened when my Sim witnessed a paparazzi’s death, no relationship at all. I figured it was my mods’ fault.
Today, I updated to the Sept 18 patch and tested it in the same save with all mods/CC removed and disabled. I took my global superstar Sim (a spellcaster) to a business lot to attract random paparazzi strangers. He killed them with fire (see Video 1). I locked the door to keep others out, so he witnessed the death alone.
The spell worked, fire burned them, and they died. I moved my Sim close, and he witnessed it alone, see, Video 2. He got a sad moodlet, but not the “Witnessing Death of Loved Ones” one I expected. But still, should Sims always get sad witnessing a stranger’s death? Is that intended gameplay?
I tested again, unlocked the door, and another paparazzi died, my Sim with another Sim witnessing, see Video 3. This time, I got a “Sorry for Your Loss” notification, and my Sim got the “Mourning from Witnessing Death of Loved Ones” moodlet.
What the heck? That dead Sim was a total stranger! This makes no sense! I’d get it for a real loved one, but this? Nope!
Steps to Reproduce: Make a stranger Sim die (e.g., fire). -> Move your Sim near the dying Sim. -> Ensure few or no other Sims witness the death. -> Check for the “Mourning from Witnessing Death of Loved Ones” moodlet.
Expected Result: No sad moodlet, since it’s a stranger’s death. IRL, would you mourn someone you don’t know?
Actual Result: Sim gets “Mourning from Witnessing Death of Loved Ones” moodlet.
Game Version: 1.118.242.1030 DX11
Mods/CC: None (removed & disabled)
