TS1L Vulkan?

Absolutely no hate to the amazing help on this forum!! Thankful for you guys. But I have questions, as I find it quite odd how we have been posting here for 3 weeks begging for the Vulkan error to be fixed.. threads on threads of asking for dxdiag’s and ‘Vulkan info’ and consumers riding on hope that it will get fixed so we all can play it. No mention that we will not be compatible with our systems, just that it’s being worked on or radio silence until the next patch arrived. Then suddenly after the 2/20 patch - the majority of us still having issues come to the forum once again - and all of a sudden we are informed we don’t meet minimum specs because our computers don’t support Vulkan, and we will not be able to play TS1L on our specific systems due to it.

Why were we not told this 2 days after the release so we were all ‘eligible for refunds’? Rather than keeping us all hooked that possibly it’s going to work after 3 patches and 20 days (coincidentally past the refund time frame)? What is EA going to do about resolution with those of us that can’t play it and aren't ‘eligible’ for refunds, but Vulkan was never originally apart of the required specs upon the day of the release? Like I said, absolutely no hate to the EA folks on here actually helping folks! But this whole ordeal really changed my pov of buying future games and sims 4 packs from EA🙈

  • Coming on here to reply to help anyone else out that’s been having the Vulkan error code and found out their computer won’t work for the game! The staff at EA are on it if you go to help.ea.com and start a case with them with wanting a refund. Go through the chat, add some screenshots from you trying to troubleshoot from the forums, add in a screenshot of your error code from your screen, and you’ll need your dxdiag’s as well.  I got my refund, and it was super easy to do and they were great help! Very awesome of them when they easily could have just told me I was sol due to their policy. I’ll try to find a link and add it in as well.

  • TaylorSchipman  I can't speak for anyone else posting on the forum, certainly not for EA employees.  But I do want to say that for the majority of the time since release, many players whose computers were well above the minimum requirements were also seeing the Vulkan error.  Between the initial release and the first patch, many more couldn't launch the game and saw no error.  From the posts I've seen, and the patch notes, it looks like those were the problems being investigated.

The minimum requirements for Sims 1 were posted publicly, and in the gaming community in general, it's understood that it's on the user to figure out whether their hardware is compatible.  That's how things work across publishers and franchises.

I don't really think it's EA's responsibility to check every single user's setup and give an individual answer as to whether the game should run on their system.  It would have been nice if someone had gone through the master threads and told people who didn't meet the min reqs, sure... but the first couple threads were VERY long, and there were dozens of other new threads every day, so there was a lot to process.

Anyway, I'm glad you got a refund, and I hope you're able to play in the future if you're still interested.

The issue I have is that my laptop, and my desktop, both met requirements upon release day on EA’s website. I’m sure I’m not alone on being one to actually check. But now there was absolutely 0 mention of the graphics having to be/support Vulkan. Not once was that mentioned in any of the requirements in the description. And I had no intention of checking the forums to verify information that should have been clearly stated on the required specs on the purchase page.

So in turn, here we are! Now I have 0 issue with having to check specs before buying a game. I do however have issues with them selling a game not disclosing full requirements, and then 3 weeks later (because clearly they weren’t 100% sure on the Vulkan error nonsense until just recently or we would have gotten the responses we are now 20 days in - on day 1 of the saga) get told if our systems are not compatible with Vulkan then we can’t play the game. If it was a simple ‘yes or no’ from the start, why the 3 week troubleshooting drama?

There are still several threads asking for refunds because of this ordeal, so hopefully folks know they don’t have to scour the forums to try to find the 100th quick fix that will also result in a waste of time, and just get the info to receive their refund as rightfully so.

  • TaylorSchipman  I remember very clearly that the minimum requirement on release day included an HD Graphics 620, so I'm not sure what you mean when you said your computers met the minimum requirements.  It's not just about the CPU.

As for mentioning Vulkan, it would have been nice, but EA did list GPUs that were all Vulkan-compatible in the min reqs, so they covered that base by default if not explicitly.
