Re: Help: My son cannot access online features due to his age!

see the fix from this thread.

https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefront/comments/3o1msm/you_are_not_allowed_to_access_online_features_pc/

1. Log in to your Origin account   https://www.origin.com/

2. Down Load the Origin App from the top header that says 'Down Load Origin'

3. Accept terms and conditions when launching the App.

4.  Fill in your log-in details (same as Origin Account

5 In the App. Click Friends -> Add a friend in the menu bar

6.You will see the  option to connect to  XBOX Live or Playstation Network.  We Choose XBOX

7. It will prompt you to log into your Microsoft account (the email address and password you use to log into your xbox)

(Doesn't matter if  is says you failed to find a friend it will still work )

Go back to XBOX1  try to launch the game and go to Multi Player. It should work fine.

This is an absurd amount of steps to link the two accounts. Nevermind that this shouldn't even be required to play online in the first place!

That's not the problem here. His gamertag is linked with his Origin account.

The problem is the EA servers are overriding the Xbox permissions I've set and aren't allowing him access to online features due to his age.

This needs fixing by EA. they need to change their age restriction for this game.

It's Star Wars - there's a lot of child accounts out there wanting to play that can't right now.

A lot of parents will have wasted money on a game their children can't play despite having the correct Xbox permissions in place.

I've tried the steps for Xbox1 and they do not work. I had my son log out and even turn off the console and start fresh. Nothing...Too bad for EA...they've lost my business...one suggestion I have for them is maybe having something like a "child" mode on the game if that is possible and not having to go through all these "steps"

Yes, unfortunately I think there is nothing we can do. It is the age restriction policy EA have decided to put in place (although I spent two hours on web chat with Xbox and EA yesterday morning where they were putting the blame on each other).

All other 16+ rated games can be played by my son's child account (e.g. Halo 5) so I think it's the Origin/EA account checking the date of birth on the Xbox profile and denying access to multiplayer that I think is the problem here. I don't think the fault lies with Xbox as I've set the relevant permissions there.

The EA advisor just sent me back to Xbox saying the problem was at their end although I don't believe that to be the case.

Needless to say, I have one very disappointed 11 year old unable to play the game he's been looking forward to for months. He's gone back to Battlefront 2 on the Xbox 360 for now and I am left trying to argue for a refund from game.co.uk who are saying I can't have my £80 back because I've opened the game and redeemed the season pass.

This is very poor on EA's part. In future I won't be buying a game from them until I've checked the game forums after its release to see if there are similar problems. They should not be trying to play the parent here. It should be my decision what my son can and can't play.

That isn't the issue on X1.  That thread is for PC.   It doesn't work for a childs account bc they can't add friends.

I think I found a solution.. try this..

If you are playing on a child account, and if you are under the age of 13, you will not have access to play Battlefront.  I finally found a way around this by following the steps on this website:

    http://www.8bitdad.com/2015/11/23/what-parents-need-to-know-about-star-wars-battlefront-get-your-kid...

Log into your (parent) Microsoft account page from a computer.

Set child’s date of birth so that they are 16 years old or older (goodbye childhood!)

Create an EA/Origin account for your child on the Origin site(www.origin.com).

Set child’s date of birth so that they are 16 years old or older.

Download the Origin game client. Once installed, open and logged in, select the “Friends” tab. Link your child’s Xbox Live to Origin (it might tell you that it can’t find friends through Origin, and that’s okay).

    Close Origin client.

    Take a deep breath.

Turn on Xbox One console. Log into Xbox Live with your child’s account. Start Star Wars Battlefront. At the main menu, if it hasn’t automatically connected this time, press Y to connect.

Unfortunately Microsoft have removed the ability to change the date of birth on an account. They said it's not possible to alter it when I was on web chat with an advisor. Also, I have already linked an origin account (with his actual age) to his Xbox account. I'd already read that 8bitdad article when I was spending hours initially trying to sort this out, but I appreciate you posting it to try and help so thank you.

I think the only solution now is to either use a separate adult account for him which I'm not going to do as it splits up all his gaming achievements or EA need to alter their policy on access to the game accepting the parental permissions set on the Xbox rather than imposing their own rules as well.

EA, This needs to be fixed.  There is no reason why your customers should need a workaround for this.

    Im having same issues,

Would it be possible to delete the EA account thus freeing up the restriction?

"EA" isn't here.  This is a gamer community website.  You must contact EA directly:

No one here can access anyone else's player account contents, so my answer above still applies.

Take note of this:  EA's game developers do not frequent these forums.  The only things going forward from here are numerics.  Summaries and Totals is all they will see from here, not the details.

I'm not sure, it may be possible to unlink your ea account with the gamertag and create a new one to link with it, it would mean probably creating new email addresses as well though. Players should not have to be trying all of these workarounds though, EA should just use the Xbox parental permissions that have been set. I don't know why they haven't.

I followed the suggestion from SaracenThatLeads. My son's Xbox Live accounts was not linked to his EA Origin account even though they have the same email address. Once I used Origin to find all his Xbox Live friends, these linked up, and he was able to play Star Wars Battlefront. He is one happy camper now.

This is an absolute rubbish excuse and it's more like a huge error that EA made that they cannot fix.  If what they are saying is true, then why does my son have no problems playing apex legends, one of the most toxic games out there?  An EA sports HUGE revenue stream with absolutley no filter such as battlefront 2.  We purchased this game knowing what the content is and now my son can't even access 3/4 of the game? What a rip off.
