Yes you are right, you can purchase the magazines but it will not allow you to place them in any house. It stays red in the grid and there is only a Red Cross and not a green tick. 

I am really grateful for your response, this is the first post I have made and I wasn't sure I'd done it right. 

Ive been playing the game for a few months and I had a problem two weeks ago. The game would not open. After reading other posts I decided to delete and then reinstate the game. A real leap of faith!  I thought it had worked but obviously not. The rest of the game seems to be ok. 

Many thanks for for your response. I had an email last night saying it will be two weeks before I get a response from fire monkeys. But if you have any good ideas just let me know.

You need to put the magazines on a table. Either coffee or dining table will work
