Re: My internet drops when the game is launched

@bugnbecca  What antivirus do you use, and have you set exceptions for Origin.exe and TS4_x64.exe?  Does the same thing happen if you're using a different internet connection, for example tethering to your phone as a mobile hotspot?  (Make sure it's using data, not your home wifi.)

I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. I did check and I'm using Windows Defender which came with Windows of course. When I checked the settings it said that The Sims was allowed through the firewall. When I play other games the internet connection doesn't drop, just when Origin/The Sims is launched.

@bugnbecca  Do you have Origin set to be offline? Does the internet drop other devices or just the device the Sims game is on?

I have it set to the Online mode in Origin. I tried downloading the EA Beta launcher and it's also set to the online mode. I can play other EA games and the internet is just fine. My child has the same laptop as I do and her Sims doesn't kick her off so I'm guessing it is a setting somewhere on my computer. I just don't know where to look. I've looked under settings and it all appears to be fine. I'm just at a loss at this point.

@bugnbecca  Try playing in a new admin Windows account, just as a test.  If it works, the issue is something about your current account; if it doesn't, it's something else about your system.

Since your child has the same computer, it's also worth comparing the installed software on the two.  Here again, you can open the Task Manager on each device and see what's running, although that doesn't exclude the possibility that the issue is a setting and not a program.

I tried setting up a separate admin account and the connection just drops when the sims is opened. I altered the setting from full window to the windowed view with the task bar and my internet connection just disappears. It says it’s connected but when I try to access the gallery or do the sims delivery it errors out and tells me I’m off line. So I closed the sims 4 and origin froze and crashed.

OK we came up with a temporary solution. We put a Wi-Fi adaptor dongle on my computer, disconnected the main Wi-Fi and hooked up to the dongle on a secondary network and I can now connect to the gallery in game and receive the pack updates online during gameplay. I still have no idea why it works and my main connection doesn't.
