One of the Sims is a vampire, and waiting until night to do the date didn't resolve it.

Me too there and post that it doesn't work during the night for you either. I also have this issue, but with regular sims (no occult sims). This happens whenever my sims try to date the grocery deliverer since the new update for cottage living.
- @pixelsaphire I have this problem too. I've only ever tried it with the creature keeper, but he always bails immediately (he invited me too!)
