Re: Game crashes shortly into gameplay after tiny living update

@nicklovett10  The fastest test to see whether this is a mod issue is to move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  Launch the game, which will create a clean folder with no content; don't add anything to this folder yet.  Just start a new save and see whether it runs properly.  Be sure to quit and reload it as well.

If the game doesn't crash with the clean folder in place, you can start moving your mods over in batches and testing.  Any batch that works is safe; any that causes a crash has to be split and tested again until you find the problem files.  That way you don't have to test everything—even a giant pile of mods can be sorted quickly.

If the game crashes even in a clean folder with nothing added, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    Hi,

My game is also crashing while loading my household. It worked fine last night and I just installed Tiny Living and now this is happening. I cleaned the cache and deleted my Mods folder. Here is my file I ran...

    Please help me!

    Thank you!

@atils1995  Try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-cilck on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.

If that doesn't help, move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Try starting a new save in a clean folder, and let me know how it goes.

I did repair it and it didn't help, but I just moved my entire folder to my desktop. I went in game and it started a new game. I was able to get into live mode, which is farther than I had gotten. So, do you think there is something wrong with my old save file? While Tiny Living was installing it did have this window that appeared that told me if I tried to play the game it would cause problems with the game. I didn't try to play and I canceled out, but then it said it was done installing and then that is when I started having issues...

@atils1995  It's possible your save file is corrupted, but you can test that easily enough.  Just copy it (don't move it, copy it so you have a backup) into the Saves folder inside Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4.  You'll know which one is the most recent save you've been playing by the last modified date next to the file name.

If your save is in fact corrupted, you can try loading a backup instead.  Do it manually and move one backup at a time to your new folder to test.

I have the same problem. It is literally my save files. You really can't expect me to play for an hour and then scratch what I did everytime I want to quit and then come back. Every other file is fine in my Documents folder. HELP

@kimgetz  Please try creating another clean Sims 4 folder, then copy only one save file from the old folder to the new one.  Don't move anything else, and don't worry about a missing objects warning; this is just for testing.  (That's also why you should copy the save, not move it—the old copy will be your backup.)  Play for a little while, if you can, then save your progress, quit, reload, and see whether you can play for a little while again.

I've done this. I've tried renaming the older save files and it still crashes. I literally have to start from scratch every time.

@kimgetz  Okay, try repairing the game in Origin if you haven't already.  (Right-click on the Sims 4 icon in your game library and select Repair.)  Then test.

If that doesn't help, again with a single save and nothing else in an otherwise clean folder, please try loading a different household and playing with them instead.  One day should be more than long enough; you can fast forward if you want.  Then save, quit, reload, and switch back to your original sims.

If that doesn't help either, let me know whether your computer runs Windows or macOS.  This may be an issue of automatic cloud syncing (OneDrive or iCloud, respectively); you can test by disabling auto sync or turning off cloud storage entirely.

It is most definitely iCloud.  It must be corrupting the file somehow.  Thank you!
