Re: [PC] Constant packet loss

@Mizvchi

Even though you normally are fine over wireless, that can change at any time. That's just the nature of wireless as it's very susceptible to interference from other devices, walls, floors, etc. You also may just need to power cycle your equipment. To do that, unplug your modem/router. Also, shut down your PC. After 2 minutes plug in the modem and router. Let them come back online completely. Start up your PC and try playing again.

It would be good to check your router for a firmware update as well.

  • Hi @EA_Aljo

    I tried this solution and it seems like it's kinda working, servers are now 0% for the moment.

    I will see with time if it's still good, but thank you !

    Great! Hopefully, you're good for now. If you don't power cycle very often, it would be good to do to that more frequently. Especially if you start seeing changes in your connection in general. Slowness, lag, disconnects, etc. Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

  • apex is the only game that i have packet loss on. Every other game i play i run low ping and no packet loss, Every single game i play im running about 10-20 percent packet loss. the icon show 0/20. can anyone help me with this its been 2 years

    Hello, @Zton3yy

    Are you also on PC? Do you use a wired or wireless connection? Thank you.

  • Unsure if I should make a new post as it pertains to same thing. I enjoy playing Apex legends, primarily ranked, but ever since the start of this season I have been unable to play without packet loss. I can play normal trios and duos without a problem. I can invite friends into firing range and not experience any packet loss. Private match also shows 0% packet loss. The issue is only when I queue into a ranked match. I will have 0/1% while the countdown is starting and as soon as players jump from the ship it shoots up to 50/0 packet loss almost instantly. If I’m lucky to make it to the top 3 my packet loss drops throughout the game all the way to 0 by then but being that it is ranked I don’t have much of an opportunity to get any KP. So as you can see it’s almost pointless to play ranked with this issue. I’ve tried port forwarding, power cycling my modem and router. I got desperate and tried wireless as I’m normally hard wired and nothing has worked.

    what can I do so I can enjoy this game in a ranked setting again?

    Hi there, @JuHGaNoMeTrY

    Do you power cycle your modem/router and restart your PC when switching between wired and wireless? If not, try that, but I highly recommend you stay on a wired connection. You should also be using at least a Cat6 ethernet cable.

  • @EA_Aljo I try to play on my PC. My son also plays same internet same house on Xbox. Both wired connections. Sometimes it's not too bad for me and other times it is hopeless. Not the same issues on the Xbox. I am sure it is not the end machine causing the problems but it is something with the servers

    @RogueDad63

    Does the packet loss happen if only one of you are playing or is it only happening if you're both playing at the same time?

  • I thought that could be an issue but it's not. I have tried playing at different times of day by myself and at the same time as the Xbox. My guess is that there is so much traffic on the pipeline from the server that it's hard to keep up with the end-users. It shows congestion and lag and sometimes packet it used to go server timeout error and then let you press continue and attempt to get back to the game but now when that happens it just gives code snake can't connect to forfeited game. The issues were less prevalent before the start of the new season

    @RogueDad63 I've had the same issue in the past. Turned out to be my ISP (Telecom) which had bad peering to AWS and/or EA Servers.
    Switched to Vodafone and all lags were gone.

    @RogueDad63

    Does your router support QoS? (Quality of Service). If it does, enable this and prioritize your PC. That may help.

    Also, check your router settings to see if UPnP is enabled. It should be, but there are the rare instances where I've seen this made things worse. If it doesn't, it should be active.

    You should check your NAT to make sure it's either open or moderate.

  • @EA_Aljo yes i am on pc and i am wired. Ive contacted my isp and they see nothing wrong with the equipment. i use a static ip also cause i kept getting "lost connection to host" in apex. i dont have that problem anymore just the constant packet loss and people say my mic is lagging but its totally fine in the lobby.

    @Zton3yy

    Are you using at least a Cat6 ethernet cable? Also, check it for any damage. You also should check your router to see if a firmware update is available. Something else you can do is try alternate DNS settings with the instructions here.

  • @EA_Aljo i have a cat5.e..... i will get a new cat 6 but how would that be bad if this is the only game this happens on? my router auto updates
  • @Zton3yy What is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and what Server are you playing on in the game (i.e. Belgium GCE 1, Frankfurt 2, etc.)?

    @Zton3yy

    Thanks for trying. Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas at this point. We'll keep an eye out for any issues with our servers and update our official channels if anything comes up.

  • @EA_Aljobefore ignoring me, please keep in mind that it's a fact EA doesn't want to spend more money than necessary on peering with ISPs.

    We've had lots of threads like this, for example this one.

  • @Zton3yyI'd like to see how your ISP is connected to the data center. Could you do a traceroute to the master server and pm me the results?

    Open a command prompt and type in

    tracert -d 63.251.239.123

    Save the results as text and PM them to me. Don't post them here.

  • I have a little bit more info which proves it's nothing to do with the end user. I am in Melbourne Australia on a reasonable PC with 50 megabytes per second fibre connection trying to connect to Sydney servers for a game and it's a waste of time because it says 70 pink but trying to connect to the game is congestion and packet loss and lag and then most times connection timed out. However, if I try to connect to the Oregon servers in America I can always get in a game and have a much better experience even if the ping is a bit higher. Hope that information is of assistance to somebody

  • same for me im on pc playing apex and every 3th or soo game i get like 20 packet loss and its anplayable i have lan cable conected and my ping is fine so how do i fix the packet loos problem

    tnx for future answer
