Re: Latency fluctuations only on Apex Legends on both consoles

Hi,

I've been playing Apex Legends since day one. At some point during the past few years (unfortunately I'm not sure when this started), the latency indicator on Apex Legends started exhibiting the following behavior: latency shoots up by 15 - 20ms, stays there momentarily, then drops back down to what my actual latency should be. This cycle repeats throughout matches.

I play from Greece and connect to European servers like Frankfurt 1, Frankfurt 2, Belgium, London, etc., depending on which one has the lowest latency during login. At the start screen the latency readings are normal, typically something like 48 - 50ms ping with 0% packet loss. In virtually every match I play, however, regardless of the server I choose, my ping fluctuates in a roughly 20ms range. It doesn't happen erratically (doesn't spike to 70ms then back down to 50ms), but rather rises and drops fairly steadily. It also doesn't rise and drop more or less wildly than the rough range I've provided (the rises are never more than e.g. 25ms).

The exact same behavior occurs when playing on Xbox Series X and on PlayStation 5. Both are wired via ethernet. I recently moved and now have a fiber connection; this has improved my network quality in other online multiplayer games (in some cases quite significantly), but made no difference to Apex Legends. The issue has now persisted and happens consistently in every single match I play across two different consoles, all EU servers and two different physical networks.

In the other multiplayer games I mentioned, my ping fluctuates in a 2 - 3ms range, much like Apex Legend's start screen estimates when logging in. I have tested this extensively in Battlefield 2042 with its detailed network statistics and graphs; the graph depicts a virtually stable ping (in a 2 - 3ms range as mentioned above), presumably on the very same EA servers that I play Apex Legends on. I've deleted Apex Legends and all its data on both consoles and reinstalled to no avail.

To be honest I always thought the issue was due my old place's network infrastructure at and was sure it would resolve itself when I moved and upgraded to a fiber connection. Now that I've realized the move and upgrade haven't made any difference whatsoever, I was hoping someone might be able to explain what could be wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, were you able to resolve it? Could it just be a visual bug that doesn't actually impact gameplay? it's been so long since this issue was a thing that I have forgotten whether the game felt better previously, though I feel like my aim in Apex is way worse than all the other games I mentioned.

I am happy to share any additional material that might assist in diagnosing the issue. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I tried posting a YouTube video I uploaded that illustrates the issue but the post was marked as spam, so I've removed it.

If that wasn't the issue I can repost the link.
